Challenge

A key role of the Challenge Co-ordinators is to provide high-quality and innovative CPD training, with an ongoing commitment to support the school’s opportunities for professional development. The Challenge Co-ordinators aim to provide CPD that tallies with the wider School Development Plan, as well as bolstering the wider pedagogical ethos of the school. The team is made up of staff drawn from a range of subject areas within the school.

Annual CPD sessions
  • Each year, the Challenge Co-ordinators are responsible for researching, planning and delivering three CPD sessions to staff across departments concentrating on a particular area of pedagogical focus,
  • During these sessions, the Challenge Co-ordinators support staff in selecting a focused research area within their own subject and teaching to explore in a written project,
  • The overarching themes of these sessions often take elements of the School Development Plan, and aim to provide staff with routes, resources and strategies to support the school’s high-quality teaching,
  • The emphasis of the CPD sessions are designed for staff to engage with contemporary or established pedagogical literature and provide an opportunity to enhance, adapt and reflect on teaching,
  • The CPD sessions align with the school ethos of teachers as researchers,
  • The Challenge Co-ordinators oversee the write-up of research conducted by staff and collate the findings to be published in an annual CPD document.
Individual Projects
  • Alongside the CPD sessions, the Challenge Co-ordinators are also responsible for overseeing individual projects. These range from focused projects working with targeted students.
Input and Staff Training
  • Throughout the year, the Challenge Co-ordinators support the staff training sessions organised by members of the Senior Leadership Team,
  • To support, the Challenge Co-ordinators visit department meetings, chair discussions with cross-curricular groups, collate information from across departments, and provide input to staff to present findings.
Additional roles and responsibilities
  • Challenge Co-ordinators also support staff across the school in selected areas. Previously, these have stemmed from the CPD session, but also involved providing staff with strategies and suggestions based on assessment, feedback and questioning,
  • The Challenge Co-ordinators have also been involved in delivering sessions through the JCTSA Teaching Alliance, as part of the NQT Conference and JCTSA conference.
