Homework Timetables

It is the policy of the school to set homework assignments in almost all subjects. In September the Homework Timetable for each year will be updated on this page. Each student in Years 7 – 11 is issued with a homework diary which should be checked and signed by a parent each weekend. Tutors will inspect diaries every week and any general concerns regarding homework should be brought to the tutor’s attention.

Please use he tabs below to see the 2019/20 Homework Timetable for your chosen year group.

With the Accelerated Reader Scheme Year 7 students are expected to spend 20 minutes a day reading. This should be part of every Year 7 student’s homework.

In Year 9 homework provides your children with opportunities to build upon their learning in lessons and prepare themselves fully for their transition to GCSE studies in Years 10 and 11. Homework that is set should achieve some (or ideally all) of the following objectives:

  • It should consolidate your child’s learning from the lesson(s) that they have attended so that they are ready to succeed in the next lesson(s)
  • It should extend and deepen your child’s understanding of a specific topic or skill so that they become more proficient
  • It should challenge your child’s thinking and encourage them to study the subject/ practice the skill further

Not all subjects arrange their homework in the same way, one size doesn’t fit all! A timetable has been issued setting out when homework is to be set in English, Mathematics and Science (see below).

In all other subjects homework will be set on the days of those lessons and most typically this will be a task set once a week.
