Year 6 Taster Day Lego Workshop

On Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 June, 171 eager and excited Year 6 children from 31 feeder primary schools attended Taster Days at Woodroffe School.

The children and their teachers had already met Mrs Thompson (Head of Year) and Mrs Heffernan (Year 6 Transition) prior to the Taster Days to discuss their achievements, their hopes for the coming year and to allay any fears that they may have. Now was their opportunity to experience a typical school day.

The mornings started with an Introduction from Mrs Thompson in the Hall, before going off to the first of four activities that had been planned for the group.

There was a wide range of activities organised and run by Woodroffe staff. Each student experienced some taster lessons in either Maths, Music, Humanities, Art, Drama, Science, DT and Modern Foreign Languages. They all then came together for a PE lesson at the end of the day.

The students were the first to use the Woodroffe’s Lego Innovation Studio. More news of this in the next edition.

Many of the children made new friends and left Woodroffe feeling happy and more confident about starting Year 7 after the summer holidays.

Mrs Thompson, Head of Year, said, “I am really excited about our new year group joining us in September. I know they will make full use of all of the opportunities available to them and settle in very quickly.”
