Arts Award News

Year 8 students have been very busy putting the finishing touches to their Arts Award portfolios ready for the moderators visit at the end of term.

They have been involved in a whole variety of arts events; visiting galleries, dance and drama performances and learning new skills from weaving and spinning to animation and choreography.

Recent leadership projects include a dance workshop at the Guildhall in Axminster, drama clubs, a lunchtime clay club and an afternoon spent at St. Michael’s Primary School teaching Year 3 sewing and observational drawing.

Chelsea and Barbara who ran the drawing session at St Michael’s had this to say about the day:

“We found our leadership project really fun to do. We decided to teach them how to draw flowers using oil pastels as their topic this term was plants. All the children were really keen and enthusiastic, they watched our demonstration and got on with the task eagerly.

Everything went smoothly on the day and we both feel that we have gained in confidence. The best bit was seeing them put their creative skills to the test.

We would definitely go back and teach them something else!”
