Arts Award News

For the leadership part of the Silver Art Award Year 8 students have been working very hard planning and running clubs and activities, from dance and drama days in local village halls, art and dance clubs in Primary schools to lunchtime workshops for Year 7.

Khai and Harry ran a woodwork club over a series of lunchtimes teaching the students how to make their own wooden keyrings. The boys were really pleased with the outcomes, here is what they thought of the experience:

“We really enjoyed teaching the students extra woodwork skills that they wouldn’t have a chance to learn in Year 7, it was great being able to pass on some of our knowledge.”

During the day they saw over 140 students from six different schools. They all agreed it was an exhausting but rewarding day. The teachers accompanying their classes were very impressed with how organised the students were and how well they encouraged and supported the younger children.
