6th Form on Tour

A group of sixth form students studying A Level French, Photography and/or Art travelled to Paris at the end of March to enjoy an eventful six day exchange visit in Vincennes (on the edge of Paris).

The visit in the French capital started in Montmartre in clear blue sky and blazing sunshine. Students were able to explore the historical, cobbled-street village of Montmartre. The atmosphere of the street still feels the way it probably would have felt over 100 years ago when artists like Modigliani, Utrillo, and Picasso lived and worked there. A short metro ride later and the group found themselves outside the amazing Pompidou Centre – the French Tate Modern. Students went to the top floor of the building to see a mind blowing exhibition of Anselm Kiefer – the contemporary German artist whom the Art students have been studying. Later that day the students ambled down the Champs-Elysée to Place de la Concorde where they enjoyed an exciting ride on the big wheel. This gave the group the chance to witness stunning views over the Tuilerie gardens, the Louvre, the Arc de Triomphe and many other landmarks. The next day was equally packed, with visits to the Père Lachaise Cemetery, the Orsay museum and the Catacombes de Paris. During the trip the students decided to go to school in lycée Hector Berlioz with their French exchange partners to get a taste of French secondary education. On the weekend the students spent their time with their respective hosts – some enjoyed the illuminated Eiffel Tower by night, others enjoying shopping in Gallerie Lafayette and Chatelet-les-Halles, or a visit to the formidable Château de Versailles.

For all these breath-taking visits all the students agreed, that the highlight of the trip was meeting up again with their French exchange partners, sharing memorable times together and making each other understood in a foreign language.

Next year’s Sixth Form Exchange is currently being advertised to all current Year 11 students who are planning to return to Woodroffe to study A Levels. To find out more, contact Miss David.
