From Caves to Cathedral - Movie and Programme

Following 12 months of teacher CPD sessions, lessons involving 390 students from across the Alliance and a lot of hard work, a celebration showcase evening was held at Exeter Cathedral on Tuesday 13 January 2015.

Words and music inspired by visits to the ancient Beer Quarry Caves were performed by children and young people from across the region. The performers included students from The Woodroffe School, Lyme Regis, Colyton Grammar School, Holyrood Academy, Chard Mrs Ethelston's Primary School, Uplyme, Marshwood Primary School and St Mary's Primary School in Bridport.

Award-winning poet, Greta Stoddart, read a new work inspired by her visit to the caves and the renowned children's author Ellen Renner wrote a specially commissioned short story around the caves and the cathedral.

Quotes from the evening:

" Congratulations on a wonderful production to all involved last night, Dot. And very well-coordinated indeed. Great variety and clearly what education is all about judging by the clear enjoyment on the faces and sheer commitment of the singers and readers."

Colyton Grammar School Academy Trust

" Bravo!!!! What a fantastic success! I was very proud to have been even a small part of the mountain of creative output that the Beer Quarry Caves project has produced. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening, but especially the Songcycle led by John K Miles - so brilliant to see those children singing with such verve and power! Very moving.
Congratulations. A terrific achievement."
