Several Year 8 students have been busy working on the leadership part of their Silver Arts Award, planning and delivering a variety of workshops for younger children.
Katie Pike ran a dance club at Axminster Community Primary School. Katie said, “I ran an after school dance club for five weeks with 12 children from both Years 5 and 6. I choreographed the dance and taught it to them section by section. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and was very pleased how quickly the children learnt the steps.
I thought the dance club was a great success. The children said that they enjoyed learning and that I taught it to them well. They all said that they would do the club again which was very encouraging! I have learnt how to work with children’s different abilities, how to get their understanding, keep their attention and how quickly or slowly I can teach the steps. I am planning another club in the summer term so that I don’t disappoint the other pupils who were interested.”
