Rough Notes – April 2023

Welcome to the first edition of Rough Notes for the summer term and thank you for reading our monthly publication, it is a fantastic way to share the amazing things our students and staff are doing both in and out of school.

Despite being very short due to the Easter break, it has been another busy month with students engaged in all sorts of activities.

The Woodroffe Ten Tors team have their training in hand as they prepare for the annual event at the end of the month. 2022 marked the return of the event since its enforced postponement at the hands of COVID-19. Woodroffe has an impressive 100% record in event completion, no pressure then on this year’s team.

The exam season has begun in earnest. Already, students have completed oral exams in modern foreign languages, art exams, music performances, drama performances, food technology cooking exams, PE practical exams, and LIBF. We recognise that the exam season is challenging and will continue to do all we can to support students through the process. Attached are a few slides from a recent presentation, reminding students of the simple steps they can take to help themselves through the upcoming weeks. We wish all our students the very best and hope they get the rewards their hard work deserves.

The English department took all year 10 students to The Theatre Royal in Plymouth to watch ‘An Inspector Calls’ and students continue to write excellent poetry as part of the Poems on the Wall project.

Over the Easter break, artist Peter Sheridan came into school and used student designs to brighten up our bathroom spaces. The art department project used the theme of the ocean as inspiration. Peter has a longstanding relationship with the school and is jetting off to complete projects in Ireland, France, Poland, and Spain.

Earlier this month I met with MP Chris Loder to talk about improving our school facilities for the benefit of students, staff, and the wider community. During his visit, we also had the opportunity to discuss the wider education landscape.
