This statement, following the publication of A-Level and Level 3 examination results for 2021, encapsulates the excellent achievements of our students in an incredibly challenging year. This cohort of students have experienced disruption to their education in both years of their examination courses due to the COVID-19 pandemic and should be especially proud of their achievements as we are in them.
At The Woodroffe School, we are immensely proud of our students and wish them the very best for the future. We will continue to offer our full support and assistance to all those who need it during the coming days and weeks, following the release of the A-Level and level 3 results. These are unprecedented times and together we succeed.
This has been a very challenging year for all students and the significant disruption to education has been felt most keenly by those who should have taken their final exams this summer. Our school has a long track record of academic excellence and this year, despite the difficulties faced, is no different. Our students have achieved incredibly well across the full range of A-Level and Level 3 qualifications and will continue to do so within their chosen new destinations.
We are disappointed that the school year ended the way that it did for a second year and prevented students from experiencing some of the key moments in their education. However, we are continually amazed by the resilience and perseverance shown by our students in very challenging circumstances.
We also recognise the anxiety caused by the events of the past two years and thank our parents and carers for their continued support. We understand that the changing information surrounding examinations has caused uncertainty and anxiety and for that we are sorry.
Our staff have worked incredibly hard to ensure that students have been cared for and have continued to receive the best education possible. We have strived to ensure that students have been given every chance to succeed and pursue their chosen next steps and staff will remain available to offer support and guidance where needed.
Students should be reassured that the grade they have received today has been fully earned following a thorough and consistent assessment process and is the result of their hard work and dedication.
As ever, there were some outstanding individual A-Level performances:
Olive Fitzgerald achieved 3 A* grades in Art, Environmental Science and Geography securing her a place to study Geography with Study Abroad in a Modern Language at the University of Bristol.
Nathan Moorey achieved 3 A* grades in Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths securing him a place to study Chemistry with Mathematics at the University of Southampton.
Anya Saltmarsh achieved 3 A* grades in English Literature, History and Politics securing her a place to study Politics and Modern History at the University of Manchester.
Oscar Sladen achieved 3 A* grades in Spanish, Maths and Further Maths securing him a place to study Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Warwick.
Lauren Taylor achieved 3 A* grades in Environmental Science, Geography and Politics securing her a place to study Environment and Development at London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London.
Holly Thompson achieved 3 A* grade in Biology, Chemistry and Maths securing her a place to study Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge.
Georgie Howarth-Yates achieved 2 A* grades Maths and Further Maths and 2 A grades in Physics and Religious Studies securing her a place to study Civil Engineering at the University of Leeds.
Evie Scott-Sentence, Millie Vacher, and Max Zimmer all achieved 2 A* grades and an A grade.
It was pleasing to see so many top grades across all subject areas including Sciences, Humanities and the Arts.
Students also performed highly across our BTEC cohorts with 4 students achieving a D* in Business Studies and 6 students achieving a D* in Sport. These include: Ellie Day, Roisin Hogarth, Thomas Locke, Chelsea Maher, Phoebe Mazzei, Molly-May Sandford, Daisymae Tait, Evie Trafford, Rose Trafford and Emily Wright.
It is also worth noting that a significant number of students who took a gap year were successful in securing university places and they will be starting courses at some of the best universities in the country in September. Some examples include: Similce Jacobson and Grace Bellorini are off to Oxford to study English Language and Literature, James Turner is off to Cambridge to study Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic, Katy Henderson is off to Cardiff University to study Medicine.
Last year Clara Douglas achieved an A* grade in Religious Studies and A grades in English Literature and Classical Civilisation securing her a place to study Law at Cambridge University. I am pleased to announce Clara will be returning to Woodroffe this year as a school Governor.
It was pleasing to see so many top grades across all subject areas including Humanities, Science, maths, the Arts, and languages.
Students will be leaving Woodroffe to take places at many of the top universities in the country and I am pleased to say that the vast majority of students secured excellent university places. We wish them well and are confident that they are on course to succeed at degree level and beyond.
