Rational for Removal of the Aptitude Test from the normal admissions around

As part of the Government’s Specialist Schools Programme, the school was designated as a specialist Arts College in 2003. Under this scheme the school was able to offer 17 places to students who could demonstrate an aptitude for Visual Arts. Since the abolition of the scheme in 2010 the school has kept the priority ranking order of Aptitude. However, those 17 students who have gained a place under this criteria each year have received no additional, specialist or preferential studies within the field of Art and therefore, the school believes that the 17 places in question would greatly benefit more families who would fall within the remaining ranking order criteria. For example:

  • SEN
  • Catchment Sibling
  • Catchment
  • Sibling
  • Feeder School
  • Staff
  • Proximity (Distance)

We look forward to receiving any comments you may have on this amendment.
