Together with around 200 Mandarin Excellence Programme (MEP) students from across four hub partner schools, our Year 7 MEP students had enjoyed various Chinese cultural experiences in the China Day organised by Bay House School on 14th November 2018.
On this sunny day, not only could the students learned some martial arts in the open space, but also experienced some other Chinese culture indoors. In the Chinese calligraphy workshop, our Mandarin students couldn’t wait to practise writing their names in Chinese characters on the special paper once they have learned the basic skills and grabbed hold of an ink brush. The experience of hosting a Chinese tea ceremony was definitely different from that of our cream tea. However, highlight of the day was probably watching the performance of Chinese dances, traditional Chinese musical instruments and the mouth-dropping martial arts from Goldsmiths Confucius Institute for Dance and Performance, London.
Learning Chinese cultures is one of the most fascinating parts in the learning of Mandarin to many students and it is incorporated to be an essential part of MEP. This day was the beginning of a wonderful Chinese adventure to come for all students participating in this programme.
