The report, which is published this week, is equally positive, describing The Woodroffe School as ‘highly successful’ with ‘clear ambitions to develop further’. Teaching was recognized as outstanding and students were seen to be making excellent progress:

‘Progress is now outstanding as the large majority of teaching is good or outstanding. Teaching at its best is truly inspiring and students are able to explain how many of the teachers work with them to ensure they are successful and enjoy the experience of learning.’

The inspectors were particularly impressed with the students themselves:

‘By the time students leave the school in the sixth form, they are well-rounded young adults who are ready and willing to contribute to the wider community with a broad outlook on life.’

‘Behaviour in lessons and around the school is exceptional.’

‘Students’ artistic, sporting, cultural, moral and spiritual development is outstanding.’

In his letter to Woodroffe students, Paul Scott said:

‘Overall, you make outstanding progress and attainment is high. Your behaviour is outstanding and sixth-form students are excellent role models in the school. You make the most of the many sporting, art and cultural opportunities. Teaching in the school is outstanding overall. The best of lessons are inspiring and teachers support you well.’

Dr. Steward, the school’s head teacher, said he was absolutely delighted by the inspection report: ‘It recognizes both the hard work of Woodroffe’s exceptionally dedicated staff and celebrates the achievements and maturity of its students.  I was particularly pleased by the inspectors’ recognition of the strong focus on learning in the school, as well as their praise for the exceptional behaviour seen in lessons and around the school.  Governors, staff and students are all very proud of Woodroffe and it is a pleasure to see the work of the school publicly acknowledged in this way.’

Ofsted Inspection 2011 - Outstanding Again!

Dr. Steward with the 2011/12 School Council

The Woodroffe School was visited by a team of five Ofsted inspectors on Thursday 15thand Friday 16th September and was graded ‘Outstanding’ for the second time in a row.  The school also received a grade 1 for Teaching, placing it in the top 4% of schools nationally. Indeed, of the 28 judgments in the report, 26 were graded outstanding.

The inspectors were incredibly impressed by the school.  In his feedback to the leadership team, the lead inspector, Paul Scott HMI, said that he had never seen so many outstanding lessons in an inspection he had led.
