The Woodroffe Jazz Band

The Jazz Band has shown to be a very popular extra curricular activity in the school under the directorship of Head of Music Jon Cullimore.  The band is made up of both students and staff and has travelled widely.

PE Department

PE Kit Checklist

All students will need the following items of kit.

1. A school rugby shirt
2. A red polo shirt
3. Plain navy blue shorts and/or skirt
4. A pair of red socks
5. A pair of white socks
6. Football/Hockey boots – I recommend football boots as they can be used for more than one sport and seem to last longer.
7. Training shoes

As a department we also strongly recommend that all students have the following items:

1. Shin pads – For hockey and football.
2. A gum shield – This should be worn for hockey and rugby but many top players are also wearing them in other sports such as basketball.
3. There are many different types of gum shields but the types highly recommended are the custom made gum shields produced by dentists. These offer far more protection for the person.

Health News

I have included the latest guidelines from the ACSM and the AHA on the basic recommendation for healthy adults under the age of 65. I just thought keeping healthy could be a family event!

Guidelines:

Do moderately intense cardio 30 mins a day, 5 days a week or
Do vigorously intense cardio 20 mins a day, 3 days a week
AND
Do 8-10 strength-training exercises, 8-12 repetitions of each exercise twice a week.

Moderate-intensity means working hard enough to raise your heart rate and break a sweat, yet still being able to carry on a conversation.

We are always available if you want to ask any questions regarding your son/daughters PE/Games. Please either phone on 01297 442232 or e mail isnowling@woodroffe.dorset.sch.uk

The Combined Cadet Force

The CCF is a tri-service youth training organisation for boys and girls over the age of 13 years.

The CCF meets each Wednesday after school until 1730.

More Info

ten tore header
Woodroffe School was one of the very first schools to be involved in this outdoor endurance adventure back in the early sixties and we have presented teams every year ever since.

Although the organisation has changed greatly over the years, the challenge has remained the same. The Junior Teams still navigate a 35-mile route across Dartmoor while the Seniors must complete either the 45-mile route or the 55-mile route.

Details of the forthcoming Ten Tors event will appear here as they become available.

The Duke Of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a voluntary non-competitive programme of practical, cultural, and adventurous activities, designed to support the personal and social development of young people aged 14-25, regardless of gender, background or ability.

It offers an individual challenge and encourages young people to undertake exciting, constructive, challenging and enjoyable activities in their free time. All awards must be completed by the participant’s 25th birthday. The scheme started in 1956 and its founder and patron is HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. It is a four section programme with three levels:

Bronze: for those aged 14 and over

Silver: for those aged 15 and over

Gold: for those aged 16 and over

The Lyme Regis Open Award panel meets each Friday lunchtime at the school and is led by Mr. David Manners and Mrs Vincent.

For more information visit: www.theaward.org

Other extra curricular activities include:

Textiles Club / Cookery Club / Young Engineers / The Greenpower Challenge / Theatre visits / French & German Exchanges / Homework Club / Sailing Club / Maths Club / Junior Drama Club / The Science Club / Lyme Regis Film Society / Critical Thinking Studies
